"Delivery of seven 45 m-long wooden trusses took some doing"

Belgian company busy expanding its exotic fruit site

Group A. De Witte has begun the considerable expansion of its Starpack site. This exotic fruit site was bustling last week with the delivery of seven 45-meter-long wooden trusses. "That had some logistics involved with extraordinary transportation needed to get them here," says this Belgian company's Alexander Van Orshaegen. "It took the truck an hour to travel the 500m from a nearby traffic circle to our company, but they got here."

The group -  which participated in the recent Fruit Logistica again after a two-year absence - has been busy with this construction project since August. "We'd like it to be ready just after the summer, in September," explains Alexander. The new building means an expansion to 12,000m2, which will include cold rooms, ripening facilities, and a wholesale outlet. "Our transport company Andiprim's offices and loading space is also moving to the new location."

"We want to centralize everything. The expansion means the logistics process will be optimized, too, and facilitated transport will be even faster and more efficient. From here, the products are further distributed to reach customers as fresh as possible," continues Alexander.

During this construction, the company is keeping in constant contact with neighbors and the local council. "We don't want to cause them any inconvenience either, but fortunately, they support the expansion. We're very soundproofed, with soundproofed walls, so there will be as little nuisance as possible for the surrounding area."

"This expansion is vital to us, and we're well on track to meet the September deadline. When the time comes, we'll hold an open house for our clients, suppliers, and employees to have a good look at this new highlight," Alexander concludes.
