Prevar™ is a New Zealand based business that prides itself on being at the forefront of fruit innovation on the world stage, developing and commercialising apple and pear cultivars.
The recent impact of cyclone Garbielle has been devastating for many. “We stand behind the industry and alongside our grower base as we deal with the immediate clean up and the pathway to rebuilding this amazing industry for the good of our communities, our country and our global consumers,” says Tony Martin, Chief Executive of Prevar.
“At this time of great need we call on support from industry contacts and the wider network to help those directly affected by the devastating impact of the events last month. This industry is made up of amazing people in Hawke's Bay, across New Zealand and around the world. If you are looking for a way to help please donate to the cause through the Hawke's Bay Fruit Growers Association”. https://lnkd.in/guZzmdsC
The Prevar team works in collaboration with Plant & Food Research (PFR) to deliver new varieties which meet both current and future market opportunities. Prevar and PFR follow and anticipate future consumer trends to ensure the breeding programme's products reflect these demands.
Successful examples of outputs of this breeding programme include Sassy™, PiqaBoo® and Dazzle™ brands which are all showing strong growth and future potential.
Sassy™ is unique with its brilliant red skin, snappy crunch, and sweet taste. With an early harvest window and good shelf life, Sassy is a great export apple.
PiqaBoo® is a pear with a vibrant red skin colour and is crisp and juicy. It was created as a conventional hybrid of European, Japanese, and Chinese pears.
Dazzle™ is a sweet, crisp apple with bright red skin. Born in the orchards of New Zealand, Dazzle is seen as the biggest development since the launch of Royal Gala, decades ago.
Prevar’s focus is on developing premium cultivars and brands through identifying future market opportunities and building strong partnerships with global customers. To support this focus and its future ambitions, the Prevar team has recently expanded, and now includes a dedicated marketing resource in Amanda Lyon. Amanda comes with an impressive FMCG marketing background and a passion for growing great brands in international markets. Her role is to champion consumer insights and she is also responsible for global growth and brand optimisation.
Duncan Park has also just joined the team and his role is to support all things quality and technical. He is responsible for production and post-production quality management. “Duncan brings a huge amount of technical and international experience. He brings a level of expertise and knowledge about trees, orchards, packhouses, climate and fruit quality that will go a long way to supporting the continued growth of the existing Prevar portfolio as well as the new varieties we will launch in the years ahead,” says Tony.
