“We can help growers to unlock the full potential of their sustainability management”

During Fruit Logistica, a merger between ten biosolutions companies was announced. These companies will operate under the new umbrella of Rovensa Next.

According to Carlos Ledó, Chief Operating Officer of Rovensa Next, the main focus of the business unit is a sustainable future with their offering of biosolutions: “Rovensa Next is the biosolutions business unit of Rovensa Group. It was created with the purpose of providing a holistic solution to growers to help them solve their sustainability challenges. We aspire to bring to the industry the next generation of biosolutions for plant and soil health. It’s a forward-looking solution that will shape a sustainable future for agriculture and drive its bio-transformation. The ten Rovensa Group companies, Agrichem Bio, Agrotecnologia, Idai Nature, Microquimica, MIP Agro, OGT, Oro Agri, Rodel, SDP, and Tradecorp, combine their strengths in one single unit. This way, we are able to become a global leader rather than operating as separate, smaller companies.”

Ledó states that the idea of a merger for this purpose came to light in 2018, so why was February of 2023 the right time to announce the project? “The time is ripe for a change in agriculture. In the global context, we are seeing a rapidly changing climate and a growing population. These facts are putting an increasing strain on our Earth’s natural resources, which are diminishing each year, and our ability to feed the planet through healthy and safe solutions. This affects both our global food security and our global economy,” Ledó explains.

“We’re also at a crossroads where, while faced with these global challenges, consumers are beginning to call for food chain transparency, regulators are paying more attention to the need for sustainable solutions, and farmers are looking for ways to secure future profits. The answers to these issues and social changes require new ways of thinking.”

With the combined expertise of these companies under a single roof, Ledó feels they can offer the most complete solutions for sustainability, from seed to shelf: “We aim to offer solutions to the challenges established in the UN SDGs, and we are aligned with the European Farm to Fork strategy, which aims to achieve most of the objectives laid out in the European Green Deal. The formation of Rovensa Next gives us the right talent, know-how, expertise, and innovation to respond to the green transformation that is taking place in agriculture globally. We’ll have the most complete seed-to-shelf portfolio to be used on all types of crops in the industry; fruits and vegetables, cereals, soybeans, and flowers, amongst others. We understand the needs of different crops and can help growers to unlock the full potential of their sustainability management. This business unit aggregates over twenty years of experience, knowledge, and local technical expertise that we are bringing to farmers in one holistic solution.”

The company highlights what it feels is its key differentiator: technical experts spread throughout the world to support farmers and distributors in the field, Ledó states.

“In terms of the benefits of the products themselves, biosolutions ensure that the final fruit or vegetable is more nutritious and healthier for the consumer while also being environmentally friendly. From integrated pest and disease management to minimizing abiotic stress, biosolutions can not only improve crop quality and yield but also boost nutrient uptake and improve nutrient use efficiency. Our technical field experts, or as we say, our boots on the ground, accompany growers throughout their sustainability journeys to understand their specific challenges and bring that back to the labs to create sustainable solutions that help them to achieve the best quality and yield possible.”

Rovensa Next has the advantage of being a ‘glocal’ company, says Ledó, meaning that they have global reach while acting local with their knowledge: “One major advantage is our global reach combined with local and specialized knowledge. We have a global network of 14 production plants, 16 innovation centers, and sales in more than 90 countries. By combining these companies together, we’re taking all of that knowledge in various crops and geographical areas and putting it into one holistic portfolio of sustainable solutions backed by technical expertise, innovation, and teams in the field. This is our true core competency and where we really shine as an industry partner. Another significant advantage is our broad portfolio under one brand. All of our current distributors can take advantage of this new offering, accessing all ten brands through the same channels.”
