The Colombian avocado and exotic fruit exporter, Cean Global, say they are set to bring 1 152 000 tons of avocado and 150 000 tons of other exotic fruit to Europe and the US during the 2023 season. According to Monica Posada, CEO, there is really good demand in these, two of the world’s largest markets for their produce.

“The forecast of the company for the season 2023-2024 is 1,152,000 tons of avocado and 150,000 tons of exotics. The market is demanding a lot of the exotic fruits and the avocado, as we inform people more about our product, is being more demanded and having a very good reception,” states Posada.
Cean Global specialises in supplying Hass avocados with 95% of the volume conventional and 5% organic. Europe is their main market followed by the US. In Europe the main receiving countries are Spain, France, Italy and the Netherlands. They also export many tons of exotic fruit to these markets which are increasingly looking for the delightful colours and flavours offered.
“For the Hass avocado, the prices are looking very good and, for some of the exotics. the tendency along with the season is that the prices will go up. The export of some exotic fruits like passion fruit, blueberry and physalis is going up with a very good tendency and is starting to find some good markets in Europe especially,” states Posada.
However, in Colombia producers and exporters are still experiencing higher fertiliser and shipping costs. But, they have found ways to overcome the expensive input costs says Posada. “Although the adaptation to these increases has been difficult, the growers have been trying to make organic fertilizers in order to reduce the purchase of certain chemicals. Right now the containers and ships have been regulating their currency, and the crisis has been lowering the pressure but even with these circumstances the shipping costs are still high.”
It also helps that Colombia has no identifiable season, with all year round production possible. This provides them with the ability to grow and export the fresh produce to world markets all year round. Cean Global also exports herbs as well as flowers.
