Dole doesn’t expect to recover all costs of ransomware attack

According to Dole spokespeople, the company may not be able to fully recover costs related to a ransomware attack that temporarily disrupted its North American operations in February. The Dublin-based fresh produce giant said the attack had a limited overall impact on the company, but was particularly disruptive to its Chilean and fresh vegetables business.

“I suppose the simple answer on that is no we don’t expect to recover on either of those categories,” CEO Rory Byrne has said. The ability to get sufficient cyber insurance in the North American market at this particular time is prohibitive, according to Byrne.

A spokesperson declined to comment when asked for details about the full financial impact of the ransomware incident, referring back to the statement released by the company on Feb. 22. In that statement, Dole confirmed the ransomware attack, adding that it retained third-party cybersecurity experts and had notified law enforcement.
