It’s avocado season, and farmers in the central region of the state are happy with the harvest. Producer Jorge Manfré says that in 30 years in the area, he had never seen such an abundant harvest. This year, the rain came in just the right amount and the avocado harvest, which normally starts at the end of February, was anticipated and, in addition, with much greater productivity.
There are 50 hectares of production around 5,000 trees planted. In the best years, the property yielded around 500 tons in the harvest. This season, that number has more than doubled. The expectation is to harvest 1,100 tons of avocado. Almost half of this production goes abroad.
