This week, producers will start loading the first truckload of kaki bound for Spain. The fruit was grown in the town of Santa María de Fe, Department of Misiones, as confirmed by the logistics manager of Paraguay's fruit production project for export to the European market, Matias del Real.
“This Wednesday, we'll start loading the fruit to ship it in a container. It should arrive in about 32 days in Valencia, from where it will be sent to the supermarkets.” Del Real said they would send some 20,000 kilos of fruit in this first shipment. He also said they planned to send at least 20 containers this year, which means they plan to export at least 400,000 kilos of fruit to the European market this year.
The sector projects it will ship 100 containers, i.e. 2,000,000 kilos of kaki, to European markets next year.
Foreign investment in Paraguay
The team that set up the cultivation project was convinced by Paraguay's fertile land, favorable climate conditions, and competitive advantages. Three foreign companies are collaborating on the project.
Del Real also announced that they are working with another group on a project that also required a significant investment, namely the cultivation of avocados in the Cordillera department. This fruit will also be destined for the Spanish market.
