Potato Market Update 15th March

Potatoes continue to be exported to Portugal and Holland from Ireland

Irish domestic consumption should see a boost with colder weather conditions this week. Demand for peeling material has picked up again this week with strong prices reported. Current weather conditions have put a halt to any field work taking place. Shipments of potatoes continue to be exported to Portugal and Holland from Ireland, with good appetite for more Irish stock.

In the U.K. demand from Eastern Europe continues but growers in the U.K. are now looking for increased prices. Buyers for mainland Spain have also been making enquiries this week.

Across Europe, prices for export are increasing gradually and markets in Spain and Portugal are reported to be slightly stronger this week. In the fresh sector, prices are holding but demand is flat.
