Week 11 Fruit Wholesale Market Report

New Zealand apples and pears available, Chilean stone fruits entered the peak of arrival

With the arrival of two large ships each carrying hundreds of containers of Chilean prunes and plums, Chilean stone fruits entered the peak of arrivals this week. In addition, the first batch of New Zealand apples and pears was on the market. The imported avocado, which has maintained a high price for several weeks, has gradually lowered its price in the past two weeks.

Due to the arrival peak, the price of prunes was lowered by about one to twenty percent compared with last week. At present, the price of 2J Chilean prunes packed in a 9 kg plastic frame is about RMB 200/piece. Last week, it cost about RMB 250. The sales speed depends on the quality of the fruits. Merchants who run prunes said that from the current point of view, the arrival quality of prunes, in general, is better than last year, and it is ideal in taste, sweetness and hardness, and the overall consumption power of the market is also better than last year. At present, the specifications of arrived prunes include a 9kg plastic frame, 5kg carton, 2.5kg small carton and 3kg 8-in-1 carton. After this week, the number of Chilean peaches and plums arriving in ports will gradually decrease.

It is reported that the current price is higher than last year, but it has not yet stabilized. Honey Belle pears also arrived in small quantities, and merchants said that the current price was slightly lower than that of the same period last year.

In terms of imported grapes, according to different merchants, Australian green grapes have recently maintained a high price due to the limited arrivals, and their taste is ideal. Peru green grapes have arrived more in the market recently, and the price has dropped. The situation of grapes from other origins and varieties is basically the same as before.

Egyptian sweet orange has been on the market earlier. At present, the price of 15kg is about RMB 180. According to merchants, the price in the same period last year was more than RMB 200. Recently, the arrival of sweet oranges is not been much, and the current price has been maintained for some time.

Imported avocados, whose prices kept rising in the first two months because of less arrival, have been lowered with the gradual increase of arrival in the last two weeks. Merchants said that at the beginning of last year, the sharp increase in the supply of imported avocados made the price low, and in the same period this year, the price was high because of the low supply. At present, the arrival of fruits is increasing, and the market trend should gradually become normal.

The price of pineapples imported from the Philippines has increased by about one to twenty percent this week compared with last week, including the high-priced varieties. Merchants introduced that due to the recent volume decrease in Hainan pineapples, the price of imported pineapples in the Philippines has increased.
