Rolf Vetter, managing director of Gemüsebau Vetter:

"Wholesale prices for radish bunches are within a reasonable range"

Due to the current situation surrounding greenhouse cultivation, only small quantities of radishes are currently available in Germany, says Rolf Vetter, managing director of the Riedhausen-based vegetable farm of the same name. "Every farm tries to save as much energy as possible." He can offer the product year-round because he grows radishes both outdoors and in a greenhouse on 30 a. This is primarily sold at weekly markets in the region. "Demand is currently very good."

The purchase prices at the Stuttgart wholesale market are about 1.30 euros per bunch, he said. According to the report, the final selling price is 1.70 to 1.80 euros per bunch. "Whether one gets enough sales in view of the competition with retailers and discounters remains questionable. The energy costs for our colleagues in Stuttgart are probably comparable to the costs we have to deal with here on Lake Constance. In view of this, the wholesale market prices are within reasonable limits." The radishes are sold exclusively in bunches.
