Gemüsehof Schwienheer has invested well over three million euros in further expanding the farm. In the new 11,500 m2 glass house, 20 different tomato varieties, as well as lettuces, are grown, among other produce. "We only have young, short varieties here, so they can be processed immediately into salads," Westfälische Nachrichten learned. For many years, the family farm's products were sold at wholesale markets. Today, deliveries are made exclusively to wholesaler Weiling.
In a kind of subscription model, a box measuring about 30 by 50 cm with fresh second-choice produce can be ordered from the Schwienheers for just 10 euros. "There might be a cucumber that's slightly crooked or produce with some minor bruises," says Patrick Schwienheer, explaining the second-choice concept. Among other things, various types of tomatoes and peppers, colorful lettuces, cucumbers, broccoli, green asparagus, kohlrabi, and chili can be found in these boxes. "We want to keep things very simple. There are no special requests," the vegetable grower explains.
