55 drivers, 35 office workers, 50 company cars and 150 trailers. Last month, they all moved from Bleiswijk to Barendrecht: the new location of logistics service provider Dijco (subsidiary of The Greenery and part of the Logistics cluster). Egbert van Alphen (director, Dijco) talks about the benefits for the company and for the employees.
"This move makes us even closer to the operation: I can even literally look out on the spot where our trucks load every day. In addition, we are now even closer to potential customers. This ensures that, to fulfil customer wishes, we can act even faster and more appropriately. That is very important in international just-in-time transport like we provide at Dijco. From The Greenery Logistics' RDC in Barendrecht, we always deliver within 12 to a maximum of 24 hours to Germany, Switzerland, France, Belgium and England. 600,000 of the total 2.3 million pallets we transported in 2022 went beyond our national borders.
Sustainability and efficiency
The former Dijco premises have been sold and will now fall vacant due to Dijco's relocation. "Earlier, the trading, packing shed and support services already moved to their own 3,000-sq m warehouse in Barendrecht." The sale is in line with The Greenery's efficiency drive. "We also want to make the right choices in terms of sustainability every time. We drive the most modern cars with the cleanest engines possible. We have cooling engines that run on residual energy from trucks. And we also aim for the highest possible load factor. That way, we ensure a low carbon footprint per returned package. Tight planning is therefore essential."
Pleasant working environment
The move also offers the necessary advantages for employees: "I would like to retain the family feeling at Dijco, I think this makes people willing to go the extra mile. A pleasant working environment contributes to that." The building has been completely refurbished from the shell, and redecorated by The Greenery Vastgoed. "It is important to me that my employees have a pleasant working environment within the spacious office of almost 1,000 m2. Therefore, a system has been installed for optimal air ventilation, and we are trialling a pilot with sit-stand desks."
Many employees have worked at Dijco in Bleiswijk for many years. A longer travelling time is now sometimes quite a change for them: "I am happy with all the people who came with me to Barendrecht."
To accommodate the employees, they can work flexibly (where possible): "They then work partly from home or start at home and come to the business later. I think it is important to serve the operation optimally while appreciating personal efforts. That way, commitment and flexibility go hand in hand."
