On March 22, the Board of Directors of Hortyfruta, Andalusia's Fruit and Vegetable Inter-branch organization, held a meeting regarding the evolution of the cultivation and marketing of vegetables such as aubergine, zucchini, and cucumber. "The market situation for aubergines has not improved. That's why Hortyfruta has decided to activate the red alert phase for long and black aubergines."
"For this reason, second-category aubergines can no longer be marketed starting on Wednesday, March 29 at midnight. Only the extra quality and first category long and black aubergines will be marketed. This applies to all growers and trading companies in Andalusia."
"Hortyfruta made this decision after closely monitoring the situation in the aubergine market, as there are still weeks of high production and sales to come. The market share is decreasing somewhat in the European market, but it remains very important."
The moment the Standard Extension is activated, monitoring and control for compliance will also start. Hortyfruta, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Rural Development of the Junta de Andalucía, has established a system to verify and control compliance with the agreement in the facilities of the companies that work with products from Andalusia.
"Hortyfruta will continue to carry out a thorough analysis to assess the situation of aubergine, but also of zucchini and cucumber."
