The Belgische Fruitveiling (BFV) growers recently overwhelmingly showed their support for their cooperative's proposed integration plan with BelOrta. Those growers had until the end of March to join BelOrta. The predetermined target was far exceeded: 86% have full confidence in the cooperative fruit sector's plan for the future, both cooperatives report.
In late 2022, BelOrta and BFV signed a legal agreement that, in principle, all activities would be amalgamated under the BelOrta fruit business umbrella. BFV's extensive activities in the most important production regions and market segments would still be maintained and respected.
To this end, informative meetings were held, and individual contacts were made in recent weeks. Until March 31, BFV member growers could agree to sell their shares to BelOrta and join that cooperative.
Yesterday afternoon both organizations' work councils were informed of that result. All BFV and its subsidiaries' employees are guaranteed to be able to keep putting their expertise at the integrated cooperative's service.
The goal remains to be fully operational on July 1, 2023. By then, consultations with the competent competition authorities are expected to lead to this unique, future-orientated project's final approval.
