The fact that Spain's black truffle production has fallen by 50% compared to that of the 2021-2022 season has caused prices to rise considerably. The warehouse price of a kilo of black truffle has oscillated between 400 and 500 Euro, which means there has been an increase of more than 30% compared to the 300 Euro at which the product was sold in 2022, while at fairs it has reached 1,000 Euro per kg.
Spain is currently the world's largest producer. France, previous leader in the production of this fungus, remains at 50 tons per year, and Italy is not even reaching 30.
The main Spanish producing areas are the Sierra de Gúdar-Javalambre, in Teruel, where the town of Sarrión is considered the black truffle capital of the world, the province of Girona, all the inland parts of the Levante area, and also the north of Huesca. There is also a notable production in Soria and other areas of northern Castile, and the mountainous areas of Andalusia are also starting to cultivate the crop.
