Tripling sales in 5 years is not just for everyone

"In changing generations, we must not forget the values that have been passed down to us by those who, before us, worked the same land," says Alessandro Speranza, sales manager of the family business of the same name, located in Vittoria, Sicily, which he runs with his brother Giuseppe.

The company

Since we last met Speranza in 2018, the company has made more than just a quantum leap, increasing its turnover from 1.5 to 4 million euros. The company has grown internally, reaching as many as 30 hectares of protected under-greenhouse structure (half of which are grown above ground), and now also counts four trusted conferring companies, for another 22 hectares in total, which follow the same protocols of transparency and traceability.

"We have expanded our acreage while also modernizing our previous ones in a period of only five years," continues Speranza. "In addition, we have also considerably improved our sales network. For example, we have become official suppliers to two major national supermarket chains, exclusively with our prized round eggplant. We also supply four other platforms with our other references, such as tomatoes for processing in different segments including cherry and midi plum; as well as bell peppers, courgettes, and long and violet eggplants."

"We are a cutting-edge reality in terms of quality," emphasizes the sales manager, "We have all the certifications required by the supply chain and we pay great attention to our production specifications, because we are well aware that what makes the difference is the actual application of the regulations issued by retailers in terms of residues (and not only those). In fact, production is totally traceable, from seed to packaging, with added value to guarantee and benefit the end consumer. In respect of our producers and the entire supply chain, we schedule our harvests only on the basis of immediate product availability, guaranteeing our customers only very fresh goods, that is, harvested the day before. This way of proceeding is highly appreciated, so much so that our business partners consider it a great added value."

"This is the second year in a row, after a few covid-related interruptions, that we are returning to Macfrut as an exhibitor," concluded Speranza. "For us, it's all about participating in Italy's most important fresh fruit and vegetable fair. Our current and future customers can visit us at Hall D5/Stand 199, inside a comfortable space of as much as 30 square meters, where they can see our best offerings."
