82% of Spanish fruit and vegetable exports went to the EU in January

In the first month of 2023, Spain exported 938,451 tons of fruit and vegetables, i.e. 82% of what it exported that month, to other European countries for € 1,319 million. Shipments of Spanish fruit and vegetable products outside the EU totaled 210,349 tons worth € 326.6 million.

The volume exported to the EU in January decreased by 9% compared to the same month in 2022 while the value grew by the same percentage, according to data from the Department of Customs and Excise processed by FEPEX.

Exports to the main markets (Germany, France, and the Netherlands) decreased in volume and increased in value, in line with the general trend. In January, shipments to Germany amounted to 315,918 tons (-9%) and € 468 million (+10%), exports to France stood at 193,773 tons (-4%) and € 262.3 million (+11%), and shipments to the Netherlands at 105,104 tons (-8%) and € 157 million (+10%).

Exports to non-EU countries fell by 12% in volume and increased by 2% in value. Here the United Kingdom was the most important destination with 143,040 tons (-11%) and € 227 million (+3%).
