David Besnard, ABCD de l’Exotique:

“The lime offer is currently limited and prices are very high”

ABCD de l’exotique offers limes all year round. At the moment, most of their merchandise comes from Brazil. “We have a clientele more focused on limes from Brazil, because this origin tends to have large volumes. And when there is a shortage of supply from Brazil, we offer limes from Mexico,” explains David Besnard, manager of ABCD de l'Exotique, a company based on the Rungis market.

The quality of the limes is quite satisfactory at the moment but it can vary during the same season. “The quality of the limes really depends on the harvest. Limes are very sensitive to weather variations. Producers have recently faced some climate difficulties, which has caused the volumes to drop, resulting in very high prices on the market.”

The demand is quite good. “Consumption does not normally increase around Easter but more when the summer temperatures arrive. We know that some clients who are absent in the winter will come back in the summer, especially the new clientele that mostly supplies bars and cafes.”
