Strong supplies of ginger continue from around the world. Yasmin Pacia of Bronx, New York-based Trucco, Inc. notes that the Peruvian season for ginger is ending. “Supply in Peru seems to get stronger yearly, resulting in possible year-round availability,” says Pacia. Other year-round supplying countries include Thailand and India.
With Peru finishing the 2022/23 season and new crop starting in June 2023, there are other countries filling the void such as Ecuador and Costa Rica. Meanwhile, Brazil started the season in March with younger ginger. “The trend is that Brazil starts early with younger ginger and Peru ends later and later every year,” says Pacia. “The good news is that the supply chain is getting better. Our goal is to supply customers with consistently good quality products and costs and we partner with growers that share the same vision.”
Demand stays strong
As for demand, it’s strong and steady. “The surging demand for ginger has been primarily driven by its glorified health benefits, which has been the trend in North America, especially during the pandemic,” says Pacia.
Pricing is similar to historical pricing. While the market has been steady with decent supplies, once the volume picks up, there will be promotional opportunities for customers adds Pacia.
