Apulian Linbo mandarin season comes to an end

The third marketing campaign of the late mandarin under the LINBO® brand - the Italian producers' association of the Tang Gold variety that promotes premium and healthy fruits - has just ended.

Francesco Paolo Gallo, president of the aforementioned consortium, spoke on the campaign's progress. "The year was very positive in terms of production, prices, orders and growth in brand awareness. Quotations were good and stable throughout the season, thus making our members very satisfied with the economic result achieved. Although the quantities produced doubled compared to last season, marketing was finalized in only 60 days, significantly ahead of initial plans. This speed in sales can be attributed to the excellent quality of the fruit obtained in the field, which was able to distinguish itself in the markets both in terms of its organoleptic qualities, as it proved to be an increasingly popular mandarin, and in terms of its post-harvest shelf life, thus reducing waste."

Twenty percent of the 2023 production involved the organic sector. "We conducted a zero-residue market test on 10 percent of the harvested quantities, finding excellent results. Moreover, thanks to the absence of post-harvest treatments, LINBO® brand fruit has edible peel, thus in line with consumer demands," continues the Apulian manager.

For the 2024 season, the Linbo Club envisions a percentage of no more than 30 percent integrated and a consolidation of organic quantities. "The future goal," continues President Gallo, "is the complete substitution of conventional crops for the benefit of zero-residue ones. The club is investing heavily in research and development of new agronomic management techniques that will enable the achievement of the goals that have been set. The hope, in a few years from now, is to grow in terms of branded production, to target 20 thousand tons, thanks also to the inclusion of new members in the club in the next following months."

The registration of the Linbo trademark at a European scale (EUIPO No. 018805305) became final on 25 March 2023, adding an additional guarantee against possible counterfeiting. A technical meeting of members was held in recent days, during which were presented the new specifications for the year 2023/2024 and the goals to be pursued based on the feedback.
