Five Barrel Brewing announces special edition ‘Spud’ potato beer

Hoping to launch the Robertson Potato Festival with a bang, Wollongong based Five Barrel Brewing has announced a special edition potato sparkling ale. ‘Spud Sparkling Ale’ is being brewed using potatoes from Hills Family Farming in Robertson. The potatoes will be added, very fittingly, in the mash tun during the brewing process.

The Robertson Potato Festival will take place early May at the Robertson Showgrounds and feature cooking demonstrations, kids activities, hessian-themed fashion shows, mead-making classes, live music, potato eating competitions, helicopter rides and more.

Five Barrel Brewing is a family run business whose ethos is to make good quality and fresh craft beer while educating beer drinkers about ‘from grain to glass’. “We’ve always wanted to brew a potato beer. We had the idea a while back, and when we saw the invite from the festival we thought it would be a perfect opportunity,” said Five Barrel Brewing owner, Phillip O’Shea.
