Patatas Hijolusa implements state-of-the-art robotic technology to optimize its production line

The Patatas Hijolusa company has been implementing state-of-the-art technology in its industrial plant in Leon for more than 7 years to achieve the maximum optimization of its production process.

Each year the company invests an average of 2 million euro in continuing to modernize its 23,600-square-meter facilities, which employs 246 people directly, and has a cold capacity of 17,600 cubic meters.

“The introduction of robotics helps and perfects the manual work of people so that, together, they complement each other, reducing the physical effort required from people, improving our workers' well-being, and creating more qualified jobs,” the company stated.

In terms of production, Hijolusa has gone from processing 72 million kilograms in 2015 to more than 163 million kilos in 2022; they place approximately 13,700 tons of potatoes on the market each month, more than 67% of which come from Spain.

Currently, the company has three washing lines, seven packaging lines, three state-of-the-art optical sorters that discard tubers that do not meet quality standards and classify them according to their caliber, robots to supply boxes to production lines, packaging robots with a pedestal to automatically place the products already shaped in the boxes destined for the customer, exclusive metal discarders for control after packaging, automatic baggers, packaging banks, palletizing robots that are responsible for stacking the boxes with the product, forming the pallet and strapping in an automated way; labeling with all the information related to traceability incorporating RFID memory, reading arches for stock control that allow automating processes in the management of the goods, and many other technical elements that, together with the work of an excellent human team, helped the company achieve more than 90 million euro in sales in 2022.
