Garonne Fruits, which is part of the Le Saint network, wanted to support French producers through displays in various supermarkets featuring spring fruits and vegetables. “Since the beginning of March, we have already set up dozens of displays in all types of stores in order to promote early French vegetables, support French producers and make consumers want to eat spring products. Our brand ('Mangeons français') allows us to promote the diversity of our range in terms of fruit and vegetables produced in France,” explains Rudy Pallaut, head of supermarkets at Garonne Fruits - Le Saint network.
These exclusively French products are particularly appreciated by store customers. “Consumers support this type of operation because it is essential to consume French produce whenever possible. These events have also helped supermarkets start their spring product season (new potatoes, asparagus, colored tomatoes).”
Despite the current inflationary context, sales have been rather fluid so far this month. “During the Easter period, there was a notable increase in revenue, but a slight decrease in terms of tonnage. The main reason for this is the increase in the average price per kilo. It therefore seems that consumers have still enjoyed consuming quality products but in smaller quantities, due to the general price increase.”
