Chile has exported a record 415,398 tons of cherries this season and the most exported varieties in this campaign have been the Lapins and Santina cherries.
According to data from iQonsulting, the country exported 148,939 tons (29 million boxes) of the Lapins variety during the season, i.e. 20% more than in the previous season. This variety accounted for 36% of all cherry exports.
Chile exported 110,838 tons (22 million boxes) of the Santina variety, i.e. 30% more than in the 2021/22 campaign and a 27% share of all shipments.
13,365 tons of Royal Down cherries were exported in the season, 35% more than in the previous season. Its share, however, has fallen from 6% in 2017/18 to 3% in the 2022/23 campaign.
Skeena, Kordia, and Rainier also performed well. In the 2022-23 campaign, Chile exported 10,316 tons of the Skeena variety (+37% over the previous campaign), 9,875 tons of the Kordia variety (+37%), and 3,429 tons of the Rainier variety (+20%).
One of the varieties that showed a significant drop in shipments was Regina. A total of 63,549 tons of this late variety were exported in the 2022-23 season, a figure that reflects a 5% decrease compared to the previous year.
There were also decreases in the exports of the Sweet Heart variety, which amounted to 18,860 tons (-7%), and the Stella variety, which only amounted to 1,636 tons (-4%).
