The bell pepper market was divided among Spain, the Netherlands and Turkey. Dutch deliveries expanded of all colors, while Spanish goods continued to lose importance. Green as well as red peppers from Turkey completed the picture. According to the BLE, increasing imports from Belgium and the first small volumes from the domestic market supplemented the assortment on a selective basis.
The generally irregular influx led to price fluctuations throughout the week. A clear line was not discernible. While Spanish reds and greens attracted customers with price reductions, the prices for Turkish goods remained very stable, not least due to Ramadan. The red Kapia variety from the same place increased in price in Hamburg and traders were happy with these good sales. Yellow peppers increased in price in unison during the week, as in many cases they were tied up in the mix assortments.
Apples
European goods from the last harvest and German products in particular, still predominated. Their availability often in sync with the sales numbers. As in previous weeks, Italy primarily shipped in Pink Lady, Royal Gala, Granny Smith and Golden Delicious. In small quantities, French, Belgian and Dutch lots could be accessed, here and there.
Strawberries
Spanish fruits formed the basis of the assortment despite limited availability on some days. In terms of quantity, Dutch, Greek and Italian shipments followed, with supplies of the latter two being equally limited. Varied quality and unsteady supplies led to inconsistent and rather turbulent sales.
Bananas
The Easter vacations obviously limited the sales. However, supplies were sufficiently adjusted to the changed situation so that, on the whole, there were no significant changes in terms of prices.
Cucumbers
Belgian, domestic and Dutch produce shared the market. The volumes of Belgian and German goods increased, but the Dutch cucumbers were available much less often. Mini cucumbers mainly came from the Netherlands and the domestic market.
Tomatoes
A wide range of products was available. The Netherlands, Spain, Belgium and Turkey supplied truss tomatoes. Regular tomatoes came from Turkey, Spain and Belgium. Cherry varieties were dominated by Italy, more so that Dutch goods. Belgian, domestic and Moroccan tomatoes complemented the range. Despite the Easter holidays, demand was steady, so that prices mostly remained at last week's levels.
Asparagus
A rather large assortment after Easter met with limited demand: after the holidays and during the vacation period, demand was noticeably limited. Domestic supplies in particular had increased due to the spring weather. Qualitatively, the German spears were convincing, but the sales were so limited that the distributors could not avoid significant discounts.
