Table grapes lead Peru's main fresh produce exports up to April 2023

Table grapes from Peru is leading the export charge with $720 million in sales up to the end of week 13 of April 2023. In the year 2022, agricultural exports were close to $10 billion dollars, with blueberries leading the charge of the eight main crops accounting for 60% of the total states Noe Gutierrez from adoc.pe.


Peru main fresh produce exports April 2023

The latest statistics shows that the Peru’s citrus harvest and exports are a bit late with only $15 million worth exported thus far in the 2023 campaign. It is still early with the campaign sure to catch up according to Peru’s ProCitrus.

Gutierrez’ projections show a 5% volume increase for the 2023/24 table grape campaign compared to the 2022/23, which means close to 1,800 additional containers with an average campaign price of US$ 2.65 per kg. He refers to the riots and forced farm closures during January that had in impact on volumes year.

“At the end of week 13 we have 36,557 containers of grapes exported in the current campaign. The volumes in the last campaign were similar to the previous campaign until the end of December. At the beginning of the year we had a transport stoppage due to issues external to the industry with a significant reduction in volumes in weeks 4 and 5.”

“The US has 59% of the volume of blueberries at the close of week 13 in the top 5, while China has the best price together with US$ 5.09 per kg,” says Gutierrez.

Asparagus 
Looking at Peru’s asparagus exports up to week 14, it shows 1% growth in gross weight exports, says Luisa Fernanda Saavedra, Commercial and operational manager of QC Fresh Fruit  LLC.

“The monthly growth trend for Peru’s fresh asparagus shows for the 2023 season shows a 10% growth to the US and 2% more to the Netherlands, with 33% less to England, 10% less to Spain, and 32% less exported to Belgium during this period.”

Pomegranate
Pomegranate exports up to week 14 also don’t look rosier with a monthly export growth trend that is 11% lower, with 1,507 containers shipped less than last year’s 1,739 over the same period.

“The top 5 importing countries are Europe with 16% less, North America 25% less, Asia 1% less while the Middle East growth is up 56%, Africa is higher at 81% and pomegranate exports to neighbouring Latin America up 23%.”

Avocado
Gutierrez projects a 13% volume increase for avocados from Peru compared to 2022, which means an additional 3,500 containers with an average campaign price of US$ 1.70 per kg. “At the close of week 13 we have 2,937 containers, which is 9% of the total volume of the projected campaign. The Netherlands leads exports with 38% of the volume at the end of week 13. The best price is for Russia with US$2.24.”
