Nick Bakelaar, Spot:

"US sweet potatoes should be available until the new season starts in November"

In Europe, local sweet potato production in Spain and Portugal is nearly over. Currently, the available products come almost exclusively from the United States. "Certainly, in Southern Europe, there's more demand for the US product. This season, that crop is excellent, size-wise, and we're delighted with that and the quality. We should have sweet potatoes from the United States available until November when the new season usually starts," says the Dutch company Spot's Nick Bakelaar.

"The first South African sweet potatoes left those shore this week, and that season too is ready to begin. The growing conditions were perfect, and harvesting went well, so expectations are good. We'll get the first container in May. Then in mid-July, our regular Egyptian growers' new crops should be ready, with Spain following in August. We're already making arrangements with growers and customers, so we know exactly what we must plant to meet client demand," Nick concludes.
