The Agricultural and Fisheries Information Service of the Junta de Andalucía has made a new update on the status of Almeria's greenhouse crops, corresponding to the week of April 10 to 16, 2023.
In mid-April, producers in the West of Almeria continued to harvest and uproot the already depleted greenhouse pepper plantations. They were also harvesting tomatoes and zucchini.
Most of the eggplant plantations were being harvested, but some of the crops were coming to the end of their cultivation cycle.
Cucumber spring plantations continued their development and were harvested while the Almeria cucumber plantations were being uprooted.
The harvest of the earliest planted melons started, but the melon crops, in general, continued in all phases. There were greenhouses with newly planted melon crops, while others were in their bush formation, flowering, fattening, and ripening stages.
Watermelon producers were removing the hives from the greenhouses but keeping them in the later plantations for pollination purposes.
Seedbed facilities were growing late variety plants, the first peppers for the region's early areas, and some batches for other regions' outdoor plantations.
In the greenhouses of Nijar, producers continued to harvest tomatoes, although there were already few branches to collect in most plants.
Greenhouse pepper plantations were developing normally and were in their collection phase.
The eggplant harvest continued. At this time, the plants are very loaded and are having difficulty getting fat as the weather is getting warmer.
Quite a few courgette plantations that were already at the end of the cycle were being uprooted, prompted by low prices.
The development of watermelon plants is very good, thanks to the weather conditions. Despite not having very high yields, the earliest plantations were already being harvested. However, they were achieving good sugar levels. Most of the greenhouse plantations were still in the fruit-setting stage. Greenhouse melon plantations continued in the setting stage.
