Which products accounted for the bulk of the value of Spanish fruit and vegetable imports?

Spanish fruit and vegetable imports between January and February 2023 increased by 19% over the same period of last year totaling 638.5 million euro. Fruit and vegetable imports were led by potato and avocado imports, which had significant growth and totaled 91 million euro and 55 million euro, respectively.

According to data from the Department of Customs and Excise, processed by FEPEX, potato and avocado imports in the first two months of 2023 increased by 67% and 69%, respectively, over the same period of 2022.

After potatoes, the most imported vegetables in the first two months of 2023 by value, were tomatoes (with 28.3 million euro) and green beans (with 27.8 million euro), despite experiencing a 14% and 2% decrease, respectively, over the same period of 2022.

The most imported fruits, after the avocado, were raspberries, with 46 million euro (-12%); bananas, with 41 million euro (+35%); kiwis, with 55.5 million euro (+25%), and apples, with 32 million euro (+30%).

Altogether, Spanish vegetable imports stood at 238.5 million euro (+24%) and fruit imports at 400 million euro (+16.5%). In January and February of 2023, Spain imported 343,921 tons of vegetables (+15%) and 287,595 tons of fruits (+14%), which means it imported a total of 631,516 tons of fruits and vegetables (+14%).
