Tropical Millenium, one of Spain's leading avocado, mango, papaya, and pitaya producers and marketers, has just appointed Ramon Ojeda as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
Ojeda is a graduate of Chemical Sciences, has an MBA, and has carried out various executive programs at IESE and Columbia University. He has extensive international experience in the management of food companies in fresh products, dry foods, and consumer goods.
In addition, Tropical Millenium's new CEO has worked in different companies, such as Decathlon, Adidas, Artsana, Stolt Sea Farm, Aspro Group, and Unión Martin.
“Our avocados and mangoes are present in Spain, France, Germany, Austria, Portugal, Switzerland, and Italy, competing at a high level in terms of quality and services. We want to remain part of the day-to-day life of these countries and open ourselves to new markets,” Ramon Ojeda stated.
Tropical Millenium exports approximately 40% of its fruits. The company's star product is avocado, accounting for 65% of all the fruits marketed by the company. “Our goal in 2023 is to increase our export markets to market the fruit produced by the group in its fields and strengthen the leading position we have today in Spain,” Ojeda stated.
In 2023, the productive focus will be put on the sorting and packaging plant facilities of Velez-Malaga and Miranda. "This year we want to increase our production level by more than 35%, reaching 9,000 m², implementing high-level processes and technology that will allow these facilities to process approximately 24,000 tons of fruit," Ojeda stressed.
“We are increasing our storage capacity, calibration, and maturation chambers, among other things. the implementation of new technologies and spaces will allow us to be more efficient in our production process. We'll be more competitive and remain a relevant player in the global industry.”
A year after the integration with the Chilean Baika
The Chilean company Baika - part of the holding company San Jose Farms - took control of Tropical Millenium in February 2022 to strengthen its business in Europe.
More than a year has passed since this integration and according to the new CEO of Tropical Millenium: “Baika is a long-term investor who comes to contribute and complement everything that Tropical Millenium's partners have achieved in the company's more than 20-year history. The arrival of Baika has allowed us to advance integration in the value chain in Europe and other destinations, bringing us much closer to producers and meeting the needs of our customers and consumers.”
In 2022 the company also launched its online store - available on its corporate website www.tropicalmillenium.com– for direct sale to consumers. This e-commerce was born with the aim of offering fresh avocados on a daily basis to end customers.
“Getting closer to our customers helps us grow, and understand how customers think, and what they are looking for when buying fruits. This new platform will allow us to know more consumers and, thus, improve the quality of our products and services. Last year we sold 2,000 kilograms and in 2023 we expect to double sales,” he said.
