"Right now, the organic farming industry is experiencing a crisis despite the fact that consumption is moving toward health and environmentally-friendly products. We have always focused on the quality of our raw materials and processing and as a matter of fact, we have never changed the recipe of our processed products.
"My tagline? Go where your taste leads you! We must cherish our Sicilian palates and stand up to bring them to the attention of consumers, because people want to eat good things my husband and I strongly believe in this and it is in light of these values that we run the company!" - says Laura Lupo, owner of the Sicilian pistachio processing company 'A Ricchigia,' among the exhibitors at TuttoFood Milan.
Laura Lupo's company is located on the slopes of Mount Etna, in Bronte, one of the largest municipalities in the province of Catania, home of the renowned Pistacchio Verde di Bronte DOP-a protected designation of origin. One of the best qualities of pistachios found on world markets is produced here. The brand's flagship products include pistachio cream spread and pistachio pesto, which are also available in an organic version marketed under the BioBronte brand, the premium brand of 'A Ricchigia.
"We have been producers of Pistacchio di Bronte DOP for three generations," explains Laura Lupo, "and this is precisely where the added value of our processed products lies. Moreover, uniting the two souls of producers and processors at the same time is the added value that drives the demand for our processed products both conventional and from the organic supply chain. With regard to bio, Germany is still the main destination, although with a slight drop in demand. In Italy, on the other hand, there are signs of staleness for this market segment, which has been greatly tested by the general decline in consumption and pressure on prices."
'A Ricchigia is a dynamic and growing company, which has expanded its processing lines over the years with high-performing devices that are non-invasive of the original material. With the support of technology, in addition to marketing pistachios as nuts, grains, flour, and paste, it produces a wide range of culinary preparations for the specialty and delicatessen segments. Since it is a high-value fruit - of which significant volumes are not available compared to market demands - Bronte pistachio is also highly valued abroad, notably: Germany, Switzerland, England, Czech Republic, Canada, Denmark, France, Austria, Belgium, Japan.
