After 28 days at sea, the first container of Italian Limorè lemons reached Australia on May 18th 2023. The fruit will soon be distributed to supermarket chains and high-end restaurants in Sidney and Melbourne.
Consorzio di Produttori di Limoni Associati di Rocca Imperiale reported that "around 50 thousand kg of products were shipped from Livorno on April 20th 2023. Although there are just a few weeks left, we decided to ship our premium lemons overseas. It is a pilot project that will help us plan the export of other loads to Australia, maybe destined to multiple clients."
The Limoré brand is already present in various supermarkets in Italy, Great Britain, France, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium. "Some volumes left for the Arab Emirates a couple of years ago and operator feedback was great. Lemons from Rocca Imperiale, in particular the Antico di Rocca variety, are particularly suitable for long-distance exports. Shelf-life exceeds 50 days, maintaining the main characteristics unaltered: juice yield above 40%, limonene percentage above 75%, deep aroma and edible peel."
"Containers are still expensive, although not as much as in the past, but the possibility of shipping overseas enables us to explore different markets in a socio-economic moment still characterized by uncertainty."
