Vegetable cultivation trend in Germany seems to decline

In Germany, vegetables were grown on around 126,000 hectares in 2022 - a decline of around four percent compared to the previous year. This is according to the report of the "National Dialogue on Food Systems". Asparagus, onions, lettuces and carrots grew on more than half of the land.

Organic with varying shares
The role played by organic cultivation varies widely: at 22 percent. The proportion of organic area under carrots was around three times higher than for lettuces or asparagus. Overall, just under one seventh of the vegetable cultivation area was managed organically in 2022.
