Spanish and Dutch tomato exports have decreased in the last decade, but not the value of shipments

In the last decade, Morocco and Turkey have increased their tomato exports by 61.74% and 7.69%. Meanwhile, Spanish and Dutch tomato exports have fallen by 40.55% and by 17.29%, respectively. In the Americas, Mexico, the country that exports the most tomatoes worldwide, (though it almost exclusively exports them to the US market) has increased its exports by 27.43%.

Spain went from exporting a total of 1,026.76 million kilos of tomato in 2013 to 610.4 million kilos exported in 2022. In the same period, Dutch tomato exports went from 1,100.91 million kilos in 2013, to 910.5 million kilos in 2022.

Revenue
All five countries analyzed saw the value of their exports increase, including Spain and the Netherlands. Morocco has experienced the largest increase in turnover over the past decade with an increase of 204.09%, going from € 323.04 million in 2013 to € 982.32 million in 2022.

The country recording the second largest turnover increase is Mexico, with an increase of 86.14%, going from € 1,372 million in 2013 to €2,553.79 million in 2022.

The Netherlands followed with a 25.03% increase, going from €1,387.69 million in 2013 to € 1,736.06 million in 2022.

Turkey increased the value of its exports by 21.2%, from € 294.53 million in 2013 to € 356.93 million in 2022.

Of the countries included in this comparison, Spain is the country whose tomato export revenues have increased the least, growing by only 6.3%, from € 1,012.05 million in 2013 to € 1,076.35 million in 2022.
