Weuthen Market Info Week 23-24:

Germany: 'New Zealand onions scarce and expensive'

The market of table potatoes from previous harvests is almost empty. Peeling companies are absorbing the remaining lots. Imported goods are meanwhile very scarce and very expensive. According to Weuthen, the first potatoes from the Palatinate and Breisgau will be available from week 25. The Palatinate begins - for lack of alternative - for discounters with clearings of loose-skinned "Pfälzer Grumbeere".

On the onion market, German goods are only available from ULO warehouses, which run in fixed programs. In the Dutch market, no significant quantities are available anymore. New Zealand onions dominate the German market, but are in short supply and very expensive.
