Geofur started harvesting its almost 60 hectares of watermelons located between the Ostiglia (Mantua) and Melara (Rovigo) municipalities. The market is very receptive at the moment, also because quantities are not high.

"Although yields are 30% lower than during a normal year, we still managed to obtain a good gross saleable production at satisfactory prices. Organoleptic quality is very high, supported by a high Brix level confirming a high concentration of sugars and dry matter," explains Cristiana Furiani from Geofur.

In Melara, Geofur owns a facility for the brushing, grading and labelling of watermelons. "Everything is carried out just a few hours after harvesting and fast shipping ensures high quality."
Geofur's watermelons are destined to the big retail chain in Italy (80%) and abroad (20%). The most receptive nations are Austria, Germany, Switzerland and Poland. Watermelon production is a company tradition, although generally the business is mostly known for radicchio.

"Thanks to the varietal choices and cultivation techniques, we obtain fruits weighing between 8 and 16 kg, demanded also to be sold slice in supermarkets. We grow the Crimson, Sentinel and Dumara varieties."
