Peaches and Apricots of France and FNPFruits refer to UNCGFL

French fruit on sale on the wholesale market and large quantities of Spanish products

Peaches and Apricots of France and FNPFruits have contacted the Union of Fruit and Vegetable Wholesalers (UNGCFL) to “organize an urgent meeting and find solutions.”

“The market of summer fruit and vegetables is very complicated at the moment. Many products have been in crisis for the past ten days, as is the case for apricots,” explains Raphaël Martinez, director of Peaches and Apricots of France. “Since the start of the campaign, the wholesale market has been importing large quantities of apricots and nectarine peaches, mainly from Spain,” while French products are being sold at prices below producer costs. French products on sale! Today, apricot producers are struggling and do not know how to sell their products any more.

“We know that wholesalers are also facing difficulties but we need to find a solution together.” Peaches and Apricots of France is keen to point out that "producers and wholesalers are an integral part of the same sector and the same value chain.”

For their part, the FRSEA and Young Farmers of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, along with the FNPF, are denouncing the lack of solidarity with French producers. “While they should be favoring regional production and respecting producer costs, wholesalers are undercutting value by buying Spanish products in order to sell at lower prices.”

“On Wednesday, producers from the Auvergne Rhône-Alpes regions paid a surprise visit to Barioux, a company located in the production zone. Unfortunately, our producers were not allowed access to the premises to check the origin of their produce. Do they have something to hide?”

Peaches and Apricots of France and FNPFruits are therefore calling for a “national exchange to clarify the situation.”
