Russia: Tuta absoluta identified in tomatoes from Azerbaijan

Phytosanitary authorities of Moscow have identified Tuta absoluta in a 16-ton tomato batch coming from Azerbaijan.

The presence of a quarantine object in a viable state was confirmed by a laboratory examination conducted by specialists of the All-Russian Center for Plant Quarantine (FGBI VNIIKR) subordinate to Rosselkhoznadzor.

In accordance with the phytosanitary legislation of the Russian Federation, the batch of contaminated quarantine products was returned to the consignor on the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Since the beginning of 2023, the Office of the Rosselkhoznadzor for the city of Moscow, the Moscow, and Tula regions has recorded 10 cases of South American tomato moth detection in incoming tomatoes.
