"As soon as Metis plums are available, all operators want them"

The Metis plum campaign, managed in Italy by Op Granfrutta Zani and Minguzzi, is off to a good start. "Harvesting started early in southern Italy. As soon as Metis plums are available, all operators want them. Grades are good and organoleptic quality is very satisfactory. Thinning is the only way to obtain large grades. Emilia Romagna is experiencing a 40% drop in production due to the frost, although it will be possible to make an exact assessment only at the end of the campaign," explains Antonio Zani.

Granfrutta Zani focuses on the foreign markets and, this year too, around 50% of its production will be destined beyond the border. "Harvesting has started in Emilia Romagna and the produce will be available until November thanks to the fact varieties have a diverse calendar. In addition, research never stops and our experimental fields feature various selections that could become varieties over the next few years."

Antonio Zani

As for white peaches and nectarines, "we boast some tasty varieties that stand out on the market."

"We promote the top products under the Solatìa brand, characterized by white crates and cells."

Monacò mini-watermelons are instead a niche product. "The average weight is between 1.5 and 3.5 kg and the flavor is very similar to that of traditional watermelons, that is why they are much appreciated by consumers. Quantities are not high, but we can provide continuous supplies. Harvesting is ending in southern Italy and has just started in the north."
