According to data prepared by Hortoinfo, in April of this year, Morocco sold a total of 9.14 million kilos of watermelon to EU markets. This is 248.8% more volume than Spain marketed on the Community market, as in that month Spain marketed less than 2.62 million kilos of watermelon in the EU.
In addition, the price of the Moroccan product was also higher than the Spanish product. In April, the Spanish watermelon was sold at an average price of € 1.05/kg. Meanwhile, the Moroccan watermelon was sold at an average price of € 1.23/kg. As a result, Morocco achieved a total income of 11.29 million euro, while Spain only obtained 2.76 million euro.
In 2016 Morocco managed to match the volume of watermelons that Spain sold in the EU markets in April. That year, Spain sold 12.13 million kilos of watermelon in the EU in April, and Morocco 12.02 million kilos.

The country that sold the most watermelon in the EU in April this year was Mauritania with 18.57 million kilos. It was followed by Costa Rica with 11.65 million kilos. Morocco ranked third with 9.14 million kilos. Senegal ranked fourth with 8.02 million kilos, Panama fifth with 2.84 million kilos, and Spain sixth with 2.62 million kilos.
