The Peras de Rincón de Soto Protected Designation of Origin plans to start this year's harvesting campaign of the Blanquilla and Conference varieties in La Rioja Baja on Thursday, August 10. The PDO expects to harvest around 25,000,000 kilos (25,000 tons) of pears this year, a higher volume than last year, thanks to the good weather conditions of the last few weeks and because the crops were not affected by the drought in April and May. Last year, 21 million kilos were collected.
The PDO still hasn't decided on what date the harvest will start in La Rioja Media and La Rioja Alta as it will depend on the evolution of the ripening parameters that the technical services of the Denomination will continue to monitor.
The Peras de Rincón de Soto PDO has 1,244 hectares for this campaign. The PDO still has 20 commercialization plants, which account for almost all of La Rioja's commercialization sector.

Peras de Rincón de Soto was recognized as a Protected Designation of Origin in 2002, becoming the first pears in Spain to be awarded this distinction. The PDO, managed by its Regulatory Council, guarantees the quality and origin of the pears from this area. Peras de Rincon de Soto markets its pears in packages that are labeled with the “Peras de Rincón de Soto” brand. This year, the Peras de Rincón de Soto PDO has once again been recognized with the "Taste of the Year 2023" award, which is obtained through blind tastings among consumers.
