This year's of melon and watermelon yields are well below forecasts

Latvian melons are becoming ever more popular

Growing melons and watermelons in Latvia is still a bit unconventional, but there are more and more growers who are ready to experiment. Demand for local produce is high. However, the yields of melons and watermelons are well below the planned volume for this year, Latvian Radio reported today.

According to melon and watermelon grower Andrejs Kondratjuks, neither the frost nor the hail affected the farm, but most of the melons on the field were rotten. The owner estimates that only around 20% of the planned harvesting this summer will be achieved. When the melons were close to their level of readiness, the rain had begun and growth stopped, the grower said.
