After starting off with some problems due to the weather, the apricot season of the Italian brand Albisole is now going very well, according to the Guidi growing company's management. "Up to mid-July, the season was marked by ups and downs, but from the beginning of August the weather was favorable and so was quality. And with that, so the demand on the market."
The company points out that about 1,500 tons of apricots have yet to be picked. "The harvest of the red apricots will wrap up at the end of August, while we are continuing with the yellow ones until 15/20 September. We are very satisfied that both in Italy and abroad the demand has picked up and prices have also seen a gradual increase." The company estimates a yield of 5,500-6,000 tons. "The record harvest on a single day was 170 tons," they said.
Albisole is also increasingly conquering foreign markets. "We are increasingly present in Northern Europe, thanks to the collaboration with Apofruit's Mediterraneo Group. We work together, with each still maintaining its own autonomy."
Guidi is known in the apricot sector for its Albisole and Rubysole brands. The acreage now covers nearly 400 hectares, making the company one of the largest apricot growers in Europe. "In the hills around Roncofreddo, Borghi, Sogliano and Longiano, in the province of Forlì-Cesena, we have almost 200 hectares. All the plots can be irrigated with water we collect in basins. In the plain, our orchards are in the territory of the municipality of Forlì."
Red apricots, with varieties exclusive in Europe, are doing very well. "The color is intense red, the Brix value is high and thanks to our very short supply chain, we can harvest the apricots at the right point of ripeness."
"We are now preparing to market the Angeleno and October Sun autumn plums under the Susisole brand. We are expecting 600-700 tons, available until January 2024. We will also be harvesting persimmons soon, of a native variety and of the Rojo Brillante variety," they concluded.
