Jingold brand.

Off-season yellow kiwi from South Africa receives good response in Europe

The Jingold kiwi sales season in the southern hemisphere is coming to an end. In recent years, the Italian company has invested in growing kiwifruit in the southern hemisphere. The goal is to increase supply and have a year-round presence on international markets.

"The end of summer was characterized by reduced availability compared to last year, but with good sales and interesting prices," said Jingold's Sales Manager Moreno Armuzzi from Hong Kong, where the company is attending Asia Fruit Logistica (6-8 September), Asia's main fruit and vegetable fair.

“Jingold has been expanding its brand in key markets,” added Bernd Armuzzi, “by providing customers and consumers with yellow and green kiwis sourced from Chile, Argentina and South Africa. For the first time, the yellow Jingold kiwi from South Africa reached European consumers. The response has been great. There are opportunities for the coming seasons as volumes from the southern hemisphere continue to increase as a result of the investments made over the last two to three years.

The fastest growing area in the southern hemisphere, after Chile and Argentina, is now expected to be South Africa, where plants are in their first year of production and are showing promising results. The expansion plans in the south of the world are leading to greater availability and a more differentiated product range.

Jingold, Alegra, and Naturitalia will be presenting at Asia Fruit Logistica.

Jingold's booth will showcase the three companies to their Asian markets, including China, Taiwan, South Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, India, and Singapore. Federico Milanese, the marketing manager of Jingold, states that the fair is an optimal opportunity to demonstrate their services strategically. "We had a good turnout on the first day. The people who stopped by our booth were interested in learning more about our kiwi varieties. Now, we're getting ready to plan for the winter season. We'll also make some important changes to how we promote our brand."

Excellent Forecast for the season in the Northern Hemisphere
The first fruit of this variety will be harvested as early as mid-September," said sales manager Moreno Armuzzi during the Hong Kong show, adding, "We are now approaching the start of the season in the northern hemisphere with the earliest of our varieties, the red-fleshed Oriental Red kiwi, whose first fruits will be harvested as early as mid-September.

The overall kiwi crop is expected to be down from last year due to unfavorable spring weather conditions in Europe. However, we anticipate a similar harvest of yellow kiwis compared to last year, and an increase of 30-40% in the production of red-fleshed kiwis," said Armuzzi. Our goal for this season is to strengthen the position of the Jingold brand and to ensure continuity for our existing customers, but also to increase the market share of the red kiwi, which has only recently been introduced to the market and is therefore in a state of development."
