The Portuguese government will extend the zero rate of value-added tax (VAT) on basic food staples by two months to the end of 2023 to help families deal with persistent inflation, Prime Minister Antonio Costa said. Over a third of people living in France cannot afford three meals a day and are forced to cut back on necessities like food and medical expenses, according to a new survey. The Ipsos survey carried out on behalf of the aid organization Secours Populaire (People's Relief) said that 32% of people are not always able to afford enough food, or healthy food, to make three meals a day. Just under half, 43%, say they can no longer afford to eat fruit and vegetables every day.
