On September 5, the Valencian cooperatives Camp de Llutxent-Otos and Vitivinícola La Pobla (La Pobla del Duc), both members of Anecoop, overwhelmingly agreed on their merger at their respective General Assembly meetings, with over 90% of votes in favor. The goal is to continue growing efficiently through volume concentration and the diversification of the range, while also optimizing the use of warehouses and reducing costs.
The new entity resulting from this merger, a second-grade cooperative that will be called Univall Coop. V., and which will have its headquarters in Llutxent, will manage between 30 and 32 million kilos of fruit next season. The bulk of the production corresponds to citrus fruits, with between 18 and 20 million kilos. These will be handled in the Llutxent-Otos warehouse. The handling facilities in La Pobla will focus on kakis, stone fruit and other fruits and vegetables, such as watermelon, which together account for around 12 million kilos.
This agreement has been reached very shortly after the integration of the cooperative Cristo del Milagro, of La Llosa de Ranes, in Llutxent-Otos, following last season's close collaboration between the two, with the handling Cristo del Milagro's stone fruit in the Llutxent warehouse.
The presidents of the cooperatives Camp de Llutxent-Otos and Vitivinícola La Pobla, Juan Canet Canet and Blas García Climent, have expressed their satisfaction with the agreement, stating that "the future of cooperatives lies on integration, aiming at gaining competitiveness and being better able to address the demands of an always challenging market." For his part, the president of Anecoop, Alejandro Monzón, congratulated the cooperatives for taking this important step, and said: "For Anecoop, it is a key strategy to ensure the growth of our members, which we have been promoting for some time."
