Asta Frutta Alto Adige

Auction of Golden and Red apples in full swing with interested exporters

The harvesting of Golden and Red Delicious apples for the partners of Asta Frutta Alto Adige started one week ago and the first data are promising. "Harvesting is proceeding without problems and the past two nights with low temperatures are generating excellent color," reports Markus Tscholl, coordinator of Asta Frutta Alto Adige.

What is most pleasing is the liveliness of the market, "as there is a lot of demand from many Italian exporters. Plus the market towards Spain and Germany is also very dynamic. Spain in particular requires a lot of Golden apples in 30x50 crates."

Golden and Red are having excellent average grades. Harvesting will continue for another three weeks, the latest areas are those on the mountains.

"The Gala campaign ended well with satisfactory prices. Yields exceeded expectations by 10%. We could talk about an excellent campaign if businesses did not have to deal with high production costs."

With a number of clients that almost equals that of producers (550 registered buyers and 760 producers), Asta Frutta Alto Adige represent a historic apple-selling business, which started its activities in1960. Producers cover over 900 hectares in total, with an expected volume of approximately 45 thousand tons.
