"Our long experience in the field of recyclable, plastic-free, paper-based flexible packaging allows us to offer even lighter paper packaging; we can offer wider windows with an unparalleled resistance to humidity. The sealants are of a new generation with excellent strength, effective in both dry and humid environments. The windows can be made with transparent films or nets, which are also based on cellulose," says Giuseppe Merloni, CEO for the fruit and vegetable sector of the Italian company inKarta.

The year 2023 has been marked by a lot of confusing information in the disposable packaging sector. However, thanks to years of experience and to the support of a new industrial partnership, which has cutting-edge figures, advanced technologies and solutions in the field of cellulose packaging made in Italy, inKarta srl has been able to improve some of the packaging solutions previously proposed.
The year 2024 will be marked by the French AGEC law. After being suspended for about six months, it came into force this summer on 1 July 2023, and will be fully operational from January 2024. Starting in the new year, all fruit and vegetables under 1.5 kg will be packaged in plastic-free packaging.
The law has been partially rewritten and includes some exemptions for some fruits such as strawberries, berries, fresh-cut lettuce, baby carrots and some early fruits. AGEC will lead and inspire the new European regulation on flexible packaging for the fruit and vegetable sector. The first draft of this new regulation is expected to be published in December 2023.
"In the midst of the green revolution," says Giuseppe Merloni, "many production sectors are being called into question, and in this direction, we are seeing the tendency of other European countries to adopt new plastic taxes, as in the case of Spain, which has developed a tax on non-reusable plastic packaging.
"In addition to even lighter paper packaging, there is a new concept of hybrid printing (digital and flexographic) that allows us to print paper with excellent photographic results, even in limited run, without compromising on the number of colors or plates. One of the strengths of this new system is the option of printing individual codes on each envelope. The possibilities are almost endless, for example, for promotions, tracking or even prize contests."
