Between the 2013/2014 campaign and the 2022/2023 campaign, Spain has decreased its tomato export volume by 37.7% (-371.44 million kilos); however, the higher prices at which it exports them allow it to have an almost constant increase in its income, according to Hortoinfo data.
Most of the countries that usually import Spanish tomatoes have reduced their purchases from Spain in the last ten campaigns. The United Kingdom has reduced its tomato purchases from Spain by 56.98% (-80.93 million kilos), France has reduced them by 46.88% (-69.9 million kilos), the Netherlands by 39.65% (-50.83 million kilos), and Germany by 14.76% (-30.9 million kilos).
In the 2022/2023 campaign, Spain exported 63.9 million kilos of tomatoes less than what it exported a decade ago. However, despite this fall in volume, the country achieved a record 1,165.05 million euro in income, as the tomatoes exported during this campaign were sold at an average price of €1.9/kg, the highest in the last ten campaigns.
Sightly more than 3 out of every 10 tomatoes that Spain exported in the 2022/2023 campaign were destined for the German market. In this campaign, Spain sent to Germany 178.35 million kilos of tomatoes worth 364.03 million euro, at an average price of €2.04/kg.
It was followed by France, which purchased 79.2 million kilos of tomatoes for 121.61 million euro, at an average price of €1.54/kg.
The Netherlands ranked third with 77.37 million kilos worth 130.36 million euro and an average price of €1.68/kg.
The UK ranked fourth after purchasing 61.1 million kilos of tomatoes from Spain for 138.28 million euro, at an average price of €2.26/kg.
Poland was Spain's fifth-largest customer with 39.14 million kilos worth 65.42 million euro and an average price of €1.67/kg.
