Operators seem optimistic both in the vineyards and in warehouses. As confirmed by Domenic Pernice, export manager at Pernice Srl, a company from south-east Bari specializing in the production and commercialization of table grapes, the current campaign in Puglia seems very different than 2022 despite the diseases, which have led to a 30% loss in yields.
"We are purchasing grapes at 30 or 40 eurocents more per kg than last year, then we process it and sell it at as much as 50-60 eurocents/kg more than 12 months ago. Lively demand means we are selling everything at the moment. We are currently supplying the Italia and Red Globe varieties, plus the Regal and Crimson seedless ones. The higher prices compensate for this year's drop in yields and last year's losses."

The operator also reports that there are no complaints from the buyers this year due to the better quality. "The dry weather has definitely helped, although slightly lower temperatures would be better. Harvesting operations should end in late November, then the produce in stock will be commercialized until Christmas."
"We are doing well abroad too, despite a slow start. 40% of pallets are now destined to European markets, especially Germany."
